Young men tend to experience this problem quite a bit.
Their anxiety and lack of sexual experience either gets in the way of them achieving a complete erection, or after achieving an erection, they worry they’ll lose it, and it’s this exact worry that makes them LOSE their erection!

Advice on overcoming sexual performance anxiety and maintaining complete erectile function:
Having any anxiety, fear or worry in your thoughts during the sexual process will almost always get in the way of your erection functioning properly.
And if you are a compulsive worrier, the situation can get worse.

That’s what it feels like. It’s almost like my erection has a thick metal rod running through it. My erection is harder than it’s ever been.
I realized this weekend that after I ejaculated, I maintain my erection for a good while. And even when it started to go soft, there was like an interior rod that wouldn’t go soft yet…this was so cool to me.

While I’m still generally young, I’ve already come across a number of erectile difficulties that most men face: an inability to achieve an erection due to sexual performance anxiety, inability to achieve an erection after drinking too much alcohol (aka “whisky dick”), unable to keep an erection for long periods of time…
While there isn’t much I can do about the ol’ whisky dick, I have been able to strengthen my erections in all other regards. The best cure for whisky dick is to drink less, drink a lot of water, or just sleep it off. But even after drinking quite a bit, I am now usually able to achieve a full erection.
Now when I achieve an erection, my erection stays fortified, and it is very difficult to make it go soft, unless I ejaculate or wait a long while. And even after I ejaculate I maintain my erection for a good while, sometimes until the next ejaculation! This is a new development for me…I used to rapidly lose my erection after I had ejaculated.

Hey Graham…
I can tell you this…start weight training…start doing squats till you build up some leg muscle…this will pump more testosterone into your body…some bench press too, start slow, build up to moderate to heavy weight. 58 is definitely not too old to start. Throw in a little cardio/running in there. Get your body active and moving again; blood pumping.
Watch some pornography. Don’t worry if you can’t get an erection….. Don’t even pay attention to it. Just build up that horny side of your brain again…watch fetish stuff that really turns you on. No guilt here..these are natural feelings, don’t fight them.
None of those things you mentioned would permanently harm your erections. The only thing that is harming your erections is the fact that you are 58…our penis is constantly aging, just like us…but there are a number of exercises you can do to significantly strengthen your erections, including improved blood flow to your penis, and much stronger internal muscles to strengthen all the “erection” muscles.

You said start weight training–I always thought I wouldn’t be doing any weight training after I blew out the disc in my back. Did you mean squats with weights? (I thought you meant squat- thrusts like they used to make us do in boot camp, with no weights).
I suppose I could do bench presses OK (no spinal compression)
When you say running—–I can’t run since I hurt my back. (One leg no good) Doctors have advised me to walk, and walk strenuously, so I’m sweating and out of breath…. I haven’t done it yet, though.
I’ve been wondering something. Since I quit smoking, I put on weight where I never had it before, and weigh more than ever before, too. I have a ‘beer belly’ even though I don’t drink. I have ‘love handles’, and a fat pad on my abdomen below my belly.
I wonder if you could tell me what exercises to do that would get rid of all this new fat? That’s a question I’ve been wishing I could ask somebody about who knows about exercise and body building, ot whatever you call it. How do I get rid of the belly, the love handles, and the fat pad. Could you tell me that?
I suppose I’ll try to do squats of some sort without weights. They sure made me miserable in boot camp. I know they’re good exercise.
I suppose I’ll have to try walking fast instead of running.
You’re right about the thigh muscles–they’ve never been kitten-weak like they are nowadays.
I’ve complained to doctors about impotence, and one told me I couldn’t have a sedentary lifestyle like I do. I haven’t worked in 15 years.
I’ll me amazed if there’s really something to what you say. I’ve almost forgotten how good being turned on and charged up, and having orgasms was like. I haven’t been anywhere around those parts for a very, very long time. I wish I could go back there.

No problem, Glenn…you are an educated consumer..nothing wrong with that.
You should talk to the doctor about squats…don’t assume that you can never do it again, unless he told you so…starting out with real light weight, and then increasing it slowly will actually begin to strengthen your lower back along with your legs…maybe it will get strong enough to support your back, regardless of the disk…might even get stronger…talk to your doctor though.
Definitely start your walking fast…if you are doing zero exercise, your blood flow is definitely not normal, and as you age it must get worse…..start the exercise, fast walking is good.
Its not good that you have to smoke cigarettes to stay skinny…to lose some of that fat, begin eating more meals a day, but with smaller portions…this keeps your metabolism going without stopping….but you must do exercise as well….try and get exercise 4 or 5 times a week, combining weight training and cardio in each session…doesn’t have to be so long, bout an hour sounds about good.
Having too much fat in those areas you mentioned actually promotes production of estrogen, the opposite of what you want to be producing.
Maybe you can sign up for a gym and learn some things from a trainer, especially as to the eating/nutrition side to your workout. What and how you eat is 50% of your muscle/health gains.
You haven’t worked in 15 years..maybe you are also slightly depressed or just bored with life? If you have no passion for anything, your libido can take a dip or disappear altogether…find something that you can be passionate about, or at least very interested in.

As a teenager, I always had random erections. However, when I entered my early twenties, I stopped having random erections, and erections in general took longer to happen. I also had to physically touch my penis for me to get a complete erection. Thoughts and visuals were no longer enough for me to get a full hard-on.

Growing up, I was never given the gift of being able to maintain my erection after ejaculation…I would always ejaculate, and then immediately lose my erection.
I know of some people who’ve been given the gift of maintaining an erection after ejaculation, and keep it until they had a second, or even third ejaculation. I’ve always been envious of these men, because that implies that they can last a really long time during sex. Natural male enhancement pills, in all honesty, are not bad pills. They do work to increase libido and strengthen erections, but they do nothing for making your penis bigger.

There are a number of herbs, mineral, vitamins and other natural erectile dysfunction treatments that you may consider before you turn to Viagra, Cialis, and the other erectile dysfunction medications. In many cases these herbs also increase libido and sex drive.
Here’s a rundown of some of the more popular natural erectile dysfunction treatments, how they work, and potential side effects:
DHEA
DHEA, a building block for sex hormones, may work as an efficient erectile dysfunction treatment, especially if the man has low testosterone levels (hypogonadism). DHEA can cause acne and may lower “good” high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
Ginko Biloba
Ginkgo may work as an erectile dysfunction treatment by improving blood flow to the penis. More research is still needed to determine whether it’s effective. Ginkgo has been reported to cause blood thinning, which could increase the risk of bleeding. This could be dangerous if you’re going to have surgery or you take a blood-thinning medication such as aspirin or warfarin.
Ginseng
Often brewed as a tea, ginseng has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine for a number of health conditions. A few studies of American and Asian ginseng show possible benefit in treating erectile dysfunction. It has also been shown to increase libido. This herb is generally considered safe, but may cause mania when taken with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant.
L-Argenine
This amino acid may help treat erectile dysfunction by enhancing the effects of nitric oxide — much like Viagra and similar erectile dysfunction treatments. More research is needed to determine whether it’s effective. L-arginine may lower blood pressure. Other possible side effects include nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, especially at high doses.
Yohimbe
Yohimbe is derived from the bark of the African yohimbe tree. It may help with erectile dysfunction, especially when it has a psychological cause. Yohimbine — a pharmaceutical yohimbe preparation — is sometimes prescribed by doctors as an erectile dysfunction treatment and to increase libido. Yohimbe can cause a number of side effects, including increased blood pressure and a fast heartbeat (tachycardia). It may worsen mood disorders and kidney disease. Other side effects include flushing, dizziness, nausea and headache. Talk to your doctor before taking any form of yohimbe.
Epimedium (Horny Goat Weed)
This herbal remedy has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. It may work to increase libido and as an erectile dysfunction treatment by raising low levels of testosterone. There’s little evidence about the safety or side effects of epimedium. It may cause breathing trouble in very high doses.
Zinc
Zinc may work as an effective erectile function treatment in men with a zinc deficiency, but there’s no evidence that it helps men with normal levels of this mineral. Taking too much zinc can harm your immune system, cause nausea and cause other health problems.
Muira Puama
Used as an erectile dysfunction treatment and a natural way to increase libido. No documented findings on side effects.
Tribulus Terrestris
Preliminary animal studies found that tribulus terrestris worked to increase libido and intracavernous pressure. This was attributed to an increase in testosterone. There haven’t been any well-designed human studies to confirm these early findings, or side effects.
Erection Strengthening Exercises
There are a number of exercises you can do to increase the strength and duration of your erection. This is my personal favorite out the of the erectile dysfunction treatments. I personally don’t like taking any herbs or minerals, due to the fact that they usually give me a headache, nausea and make me feel jittery.
There are certain exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles used in the erection process. You may have heard of kegels, they can work to do this. However, you want to make sure you are performing kegels correctly. You don’t want to involve any other nearby muscles, and you want to learn to strengthen the erection muscles to their fullest without overdoing them. There are a couple of other exercises to strengthen these muscles.
There are also other exercises to increase the blood flow to the penis. These help you achieve a full erection rather quickly; they make your erections very responsive.
Natural Libido Enhancement
There are a number of exercises and activities you can do to naturally boost your testosterone levels, which in turn works to increase libido, sex drive, and erection quality. As I mentioned I don’t like taking herbs and minerals due to the headache and nausea they generally cause me, so this is my preffered method of increasing libido.

This is amazing…I know most men have experienced random erections, but most likely when they were teenagers. I remember when I was in my teens I would get random erections in class, while riding the bus home, or at other random times.

Although this seems like I was losing power in my erections, there was no reason to worry, or seek out erectile dysfunction treatments…this is a normal occurance as a man ages. My erections were still pretty strong when I was at “full attention”.
However, within the last few years I’ve been performing a number of exercises. I am now in my early 30’s, and I have the erections I had back in my teenage years. Even I feel sexual anxiety when I am with a new partner. Sexual anxiety, aka sexual performance anxiety, effects most people when they are having sex with somebody new. It is not a problem unless it keeps you from achieving and maintaining an erection, or initiation a sexual encounter.
Some butterflies in your stomach are not a big problem, but paralyzing sexual anxiety that holds you back from achieving an erection, or even initiating sex, is a big problem.
Sexual performance anxiety can also occur with partners you are more familiar with if you have developed a history of premature ejaculation, erectile difficulties, inability to make a woman orgasm, delayed ejaculation, and other sexual complications.
As I mentioned, a little bit of sexual anxiety is normal before your sexual encounters with a new partner, however if it persists, or has strongly developed over time, you need to put a stop to it. Sexual performance anxiety can become a vicious cycle, with each performance reinforcing the idea that there is something wrong with your abilities.
I went through a tough time in the earlier days of my sex life. I was convinced that I had erectile dysfunction due to my inability to achieve an erection with a new girlfriend, and I began to research on erectile dysfunction treatments like Viagra.
